what i liked about WonderCon
-Getting there at 1:00 PM
-Finding this year's supply of BRAVE AND THE BOLD, which, to the non comics readers reading my journal, is a comic they had in the 60s and 70s wherein Batman was teamed up with a different character in every issue. For team-up books like this the editors and writers went for offbeat pairings to tell unusual stories which you wouldn't see in the characters' usual books. Ergo, in the issues I picked up today, you have Batman and the Atom in "Death Has A Golden Grab!", where they seem to spend the issue beating up lederhosen-wearing thieves; Batman and Green Arrow fucking up dudes in medieval armor; and Batman teaming up with the Blackhawk squadron ("The Fantastic Flying Squadron of World War Two Are Back!"), in a story about which the cover asks "...but are they flying Batman to his doom?" (the answer appears to be yes, since the planes are flying straight down and Batman is standing on one of them).
-All the costumes, be they well-made or terrible
-Getting almost the entire run of CAPTAIN AMERICA back from the year I read it (1985 - the Serpent Squad came together for reptilian hijinks, anti-nationalist villain Flag-Smasher was going around fucking up flags, M.O.D.O.K. gets autopsied, and a mysterious vigilante named Scourge was cutting a bloody swath across the Marvel Universe, murdering villains no one wanted to write anymore with a PUM!--SPAK! "Justice is served.")
-Running around with Larry Young
-Grown-ups with their kids
-Hanging out with
asluk
-Catching up with artists from the WIDESCREEN show
-Finding THE CURSE OF DRACULA from NBC's CLIFFHANGER show on DVD-R
-Hearing the fun Ramen and Rice string duo perform Yoko Kanno's "Tank!" on violin and cello
-Having dinner and seeing a silent Mizoguchi movie afterwards with dear friends
